Program Note:

Flicker was commissioned by the Ku-ring-gai Philharmonic Orchestra for their 2017 Kids Prom concerts. The theme of these concerts was "Blast off to the moon & stars: a sound adventure into space", and the commission came with the request that the piece feature quotes from 'Twinkle Twinkle'. Manipulated fragments of 'Twinkle Twinkle' are heard in various sections of the orchestra throughout the piece. The pulsing notes that feature heavily in the work are representative of the 'bridge of pulsing stars' that astronomers have observed between the large and small Magellanic clouds.
